Do we truly love Jesus or merely the idea of Jesus?

I’d like to start off with the commonly used phrase: God is love. Why does God = Love? Because He sent his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins (past, present, future). Why would that be important? Because if it were not, we would all be doomed to Hell because of our sins against a Holy and Righteous God. Therefore God in His divine nature, came down to earth in bodily form, as Jesus Christ to teach Man, how to live and walk in accordance to His will. Once we have confessed our sins and believe in Him, we become part of His family and therefore, sons of God.

However, many times, we see this as a mere “free pass” per say to continue sinning, though it may not occur to us immediately, after some pondering, we would come to the realization that we are truly wretched. Because we see that on one hand, we know that according to: 1 John 1:9 ESV

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Then at that point in time, that exact moment, our relationship with Him is restored again. But yet we continue to sin some time afterwards, sometimes we sin continually for a period before our conscience comes knocking.

The big question here is: Do we truly love Jesus or merely the idea of Jesus?

When this question is asked, how do you feel? What emotions rise up in your heart?

Do we truly love Jesus? When we say we are Christians, what does it really mean to us? At the end of the day, only you and God know the answer. I pray that our eyes may be opened to His truth, to His person, to really know the person that is Jesus, to really know God and not only pay lip service to Him.

No one is sinless, no one but Him. No one can forgive sins, but the Son of God who is of God. May the Word of God melt the coldness of our hearts with His fiery love, may His truth shatter our hard hearts and allow us to truly and sincerely repent from sin and walk away from our past sins that binds us.
